2. Who We Are & Scope of This Policy

SurveyJury is a market research platform and survey panel directory operated by SurveyJury.com. Under applicable data protection laws, including the UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and relevant Indian laws, SurveyJury acts as a Data Controller for personal data collected directly from users in connection with the operation of its website and platform.

In limited cases where SurveyJury processes personal data on behalf of Market Research Companies or Insight Buyers as part of specific platform-enabled services, it acts as a Data Processor, processing such data only in accordance with client instructions and applicable Data Processing Agreements (DPAs).

SurveyJury operates solely as a marketplace and intermediary and does not conduct surveys or provide market research services. Survey Participants independently engage with third-party Survey Panels, and Insight Buyers directly contract with Market Research Companies or submit research requests to them through the platform.

All surveys, research services, and related data processing activities are carried out independently by third-party providers, who act as separate data controllers. SurveyJury does not control or assume responsibility for their services, content, or data processing practices, and is not a party to any agreements between users and such providers.

This policy applies to:
All visitors to surveyjury.com and its subdomains
All registered accounts across every community type
Data collected via our APIs, email communications, and third-party integrations
Any offline interactions related to our services (e.g., support calls, events)

4. Legal Basis for Processing Your Data

We only process personal data where we have a lawful basis to do so. Under UK/EU GDPR, we rely on the following grounds:

Contract performance

Processing necessary to provide and operate the services you’ve registered for, including creating and managing user accounts, enabling survey discovery and participation tracking, displaying company and panel listings, facilitating enquiries and communications between users, and processing subscriptions and billing.

Legitimate interests

Operating, improving, and securing the platform; facilitating relevant survey matching; maintaining marketplace integrity; preventing fraud; and communicating essential service updates. Business contact data is processed in line with reasonable expectations in a B2B context.

Consent

Where required, including for marketing communications, non-essential cookies, and optional demographic data used for enhanced survey matching. Any sensitive personal data is processed based on explicit consent and typically by third-party providers acting as independent data controllers.

Legal obligation

Where we must retain or disclose data to comply with applicable law, including tax, accounting, regulatory requirements, legal claims, or lawful requests from authorities.
SurveyJury does not conduct surveys or provide market research services. Where Survey Participants choose to engage with surveys offered by third-party Survey Panels or research providers, those entities act as independent data controllers and determine their own lawful bases for processing personal data in connection with such activities.

6. Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell personal data in the traditional sense. We only share personal data where necessary to operate our platform or comply with legal obligations, and only with parties that are contractually or legally required to protect it.
Sharing within the platform
Between Insight Buyers and Market Research Companies/Panels: When a Buyer submits an enquiry or RFP, their contact details and project brief are shared with the specific suppliers they select. Buyers control this.
Participant profile matching: Aggregated and anonymised demographic segments (never individual identities) are used to match participants to survey studies commissioned by research companies.
Third-party service providers
We work with carefully vetted processors who act strictly on our documented instructions:
Cloud infrastructure: Hosting and database services (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud)
Payment processing: Stripe or equivalent PCI-DSS Level 1 certified provider — we do not store card numbers
Email delivery: Transactional and marketing email platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, SendGrid)
Analytics: Web analytics tools (configured for IP anonymisation and GDPR compliance)
Customer support: Helpdesk software used to manage support tickets
Security & fraud detection: CAPTCHA services (Cloudflare Turnstile or Google reCAPTCHA) and bot-mitigation providers
Legal disclosures
We may disclose personal data if required to do so by applicable law, court order, regulatory authority, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of SurveyJury, our users, or the public.
Business transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of substantially all of our assets, personal data held by SurveyJury may be transferred to the relevant successor entity. We will notify affected users in advance where practicable and ensure equivalent privacy protections apply.

7. How We Protect Your Data

We implement layered, industry-standard technical and organisational measures designed to ensure a level of security appropriate to the risk, including protection of personal data against unauthorised or unlawful access, disclosure, alteration, and accidental or unlawful loss, destruction, or damage.
All data in transit is encrypted using TLS 1.2 or higher (HTTPS enforced across all pages)
Passwords are stored using strong one-way hashing algorithms (bcrypt); we never store passwords in plaintext
Authentication tokens are generated using cryptographically secure random functions and compared using timing-safe equality checks
Access to production databases is restricted to authorised personnel on a strict need-to-know basis
Platform-level rate limiting and CAPTCHA verification protect login and registration forms against automated attacks
Administrative actions are recorded in a tamper-evident audit log to ensure integrity, traceability, and accountability.
Regular security reviews and vulnerability assessments are conducted on our platform
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we take extensive precautions, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a personal data breach that poses a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours and affected individuals without undue delay, in accordance with our legal obligations.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law.
Active accounts: Personal data is retained for the duration of the account lifecycle and the ongoing contractual or service relationship.
Closed participant accounts: Profile and activity data is deleted or irreversibly anonymised within 90 days of verified account closure, except where retention is necessary for the establishment, exercise, or defence of legal claims, dispute resolution, or to comply with legal obligations.
Business accounts (Panels, MR Companies, Buyers): Business contact details and transactional records are retained for up to 7 years following termination of the commercial relationship, in line with applicable accounting, tax, and statutory record-keeping requirements.
Enquiry and messaging data: Communications conducted via the platform are retained for up to 3 years to support customer service, dispute resolution, and legal compliance.
Technical/log data: Server logs and related technical records are retained for a maximum of 12 months and are subject to rolling deletion, unless longer retention is required for security investigations or legal obligations.
Marketing consent records: Records of consent are retained for up to 3 years from the date of consent or the last interaction, whichever is later, to demonstrate compliance with applicable marketing and data protection laws.
When personal data is no longer required for the purposes set out above, it is securely deleted or irreversibly anonymised in a manner that ensures it can no longer be associated with an identifiable individual.

Where we transfer personal data originating from the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area to countries that are not subject to an adequacy decision by the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or the European Commission, we implement appropriate safeguards in accordance with applicable data protection laws. These safeguards include:
Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission and, where applicable, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or UK Addendum
Transfers to jurisdictions subject to an adequacy decision, where available
Binding Corporate Rules, where applicable to intra-group transfers
For users located in India, we conduct cross-border data transfers in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and any applicable rules or notifications issued by the Government of India.

We take reasonable steps to ensure that all international data transfers include appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data and maintain its confidentiality, integrity, and security.

You may request a copy of the transfer safeguards we rely on by contacting privacy@surveyjury.com.

Where we identify that an account belongs to an individual below the applicable minimum age, we suspend the account and delete the associated personal data without undue delay, unless retention is required to comply with legal obligations or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
